Current Art Journal

I also took pictures of my current art journal yesterday. I haven't been working on it lately as I'm working on other art, writing in my paper journal and blogging.

I Live a Life of Danger

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Great food, good drink and excellent company. I don't think I ever had such a relaxed Thanksgiving. Thank you!

We've been chilling out in our office/studio a lot lately, and since I want this to be part studio blog--I am going to share the atrocity that is our studio.

We are living in my grandmother's old house and I am so sorry to say that the woman had AWFUL taste. Hence the pastel painted and wallpapered walls. We also have no organization whatsoever. I am hoping that this post will embarrass me into action. We really need to do something with this space.

This is my desk, which is an obvious mess. I don't even have a chair for it right now, so I work on the floor.

This is our window. Today was overcast, so you can't see what amazing light it gets. We love it. By keeping the window open we also have a view of the cemetery across the street.

This is where I have been working on the floor. You can see how obscenely messy I am. In the background you can see the canvas I am stitching on. Robot Love!

This is the computer area and where Mr. Martini has his easel set up. Right now he is working on our submission to the Dirty Show.  He had a piece in it a few years ago. (It is hanging over my desk now.)

Altering this photo is what I did this morning. I'm not done yet.

Mr. Martini working on his canvas.

So we need to paint and I desperately need to come up with some kind of organization system. Go ahead and shame me. I need any encouragement I can get.

P.S. I was held hostage by drug dealers tonight. No lie.

On the request line... robot love

I didn't know what to write about here tonight so I asked Kevin. He said I should write about Robot Love.

Robot Love! Where to start?

Really, though, I had another great day. Robin made me the most amazing blueberry pancakes for breakfast (with FRESH blueberries and whipped cream, syrup and powdered sugar!) What a way to start the day.

After breakfast we came over to my place and spent the day cleaning and rearranging the kitchen in preparation for Thanksgiving. Even the boys helped out by rearranging the living room, hanging plants and shelves.

My wonderful sister is helping me cook the Thanksgiving dinner. The guest list keeps getting longer and longer. It seems like everybody needs a place to go for Thanksgiving for one reason or another. We say: The more, the merrier!

It has been a good, long day and I'm ready for a hot bath.

Out of Control Eyebrows in Almania!

I feel a little shallow for writing about this, but my biggest worry today has been how to get my eyebrows waxed. I can't decided whether to go to a nearby salon or drive to Ft. Smith and buy a waxing kit. The trials of living in the small town of Alma--or Almania--as we like to call it.
Mr. Martini has been teasing me about my eyebrows. Sometimes I wonder if he understands the work that goes into glamour.

Like I was saying, though, it has been a pretty leisurely day. I stitched on the canvas that Mr. Martini and I are working on. It is hard to sew through canvas! I had to sharpen my needle on an emery board.

I picked up some cheap fabric to use as a backdrop for photos. I am working on backdrops first and then I will start on the lighting. Since it has turned cold I am taking the photography indoors.

Thought I'd share a few photos I took. The first two are of Sarah in her Halloween costume. She came up with the second pose herself.

This is my friend Robin. We had a lot of fun taking pictures, but I am not happy with the lighting. It was very hard to get shots, with her swinging on the tire!

Mama Drama

I've been itching to blog again, and what better time than now, with a ton of holiday pressure upon me suddenly. My mother threw one of her fits and canceled Thanksgiving dinner, then reinstated it, only to cancel it again. Now it is 4 days from Thanksgiving and I have to come up with a Thanksgiving dinner.

I've been surfing the net and taking lots of notes, planning my dinner. I'm not scared of the prospect; I've cooked more than a few Thanksgiving dinners. Right now I have a list of Thanksgiving essentials: Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, sweet potatoes, something with cranberry in it and pumpkin something.

To celebrate our first Thanksgiving shacking up together, Mr. Martini and I have already decided we are going to serve Pumpkin Spice martinis.

I found this recipe at Haunted Bay.

Pumpkin Pie Martini

Pumpkin Pie Martinis
  • 4 oz of Smirnoff vodka
  • 1 oz Stolichnaya Vanil vodka
  • Cocktail Candy Vanilla Shake cocktail sugar
  • Pumpkin spice

Pour all of the liquid ingredients into a shaker 1/4 full of cracked ice and shake. Allow shaker to rest while rimming two iced martini glasses with Vanilla Cocktail Candy Rim Sugar. Strain martini into glasses. Garnish with a shake of pumpkin pie spice.

I think I might modify it some and use cinammon sticks for garnish.
